1 Year Diet & Fitness Diary of a 42 Year Old Working Mom - Day 9

So I’ve been doing a lot of research to make sure that I’m exercising properly and eating right in order to put on muscle and lose fat. I found a great post called 5 Tips for Women to Build Muscle. The article is great and was just what I needed. I’ve decided to start increasing my karate training to 4 nights a week. So far I’ve only been able to do the Body Pump class at Gold’s Gym 2 days a week. I have been so sore that I couldn’t make it the 3rd day. This week I am not as sore as last so I think I will try to go to the class on Thursday and Saturday as well....

1 Year Diet & Fitness Diary of a 42 Year Old Working Mom - Day 3

Wow is all I can say! The last few days my body has ached like never before. I finally woke up this morning with nothing sore on my body. But then of course, at 6:30 pm was my BodyPump class at Golds Gym, and then my karate class from 8:30 to 9:30. So now, it’s 10:24 and after I came home and entered my dinner and exercise I realized that I hadn’t consumed enough calories. So I fill a bowl with Kashi Go Lean cereal and lactaid milk since I’m lactose intolerant and eat it in about 2 seconds flat.. then follow it with a large banana. And what do you know.. I”M STILL SHORT!!! It...

1 Year Diet & Fitness Diary of a 42 Year Old Working Mom - Day 2

So today I am very, very, sore. However, less sore than yesterday. It’s been 3 days since I took my first Body Pump class from Gold’s Gym. I can definitely see how much muscle I need to work on by how sore every inch of my body is today. I was supposed to take another class tonight and then again on Thursday. But with my muscles in this much pain I think I’d be doing more harm than good. So instead, I’m taking karate class tonight as usual and going to Body Pump on Thursday. My mood today is good but my body feels like it’s been run over by a truck. My stomach was...

1 Year Diet & Fitness Diary of a 42 Year Old Working Mom - Day 1

A week ago I decided to change my life. I’ve accomplished a lot of things so far, I’m raising 5 children, two of which are grown and graduated from college, one who is graduating this summer and two young daughters at home ages 8 and 10. I’m running a successful business plus working full time for an employer. I finished and published my book, “Beyond the Present - A Memoir”, I’ve been taking karate for 2 years and have made it to my 6th degree Green belt (that is 11 belts earned), and I’m 2 belts away from testing for my Red belt. But one thing I’ve...

Martial Arts plus Strength Training

So I’ve been taking martial arts for 2 years now and although I know that it’s helping me stay in shape and definitely teaching me self defense I’ve decided I want to start building more muscle. After all, it has been said that for two fighters equally skilled… the stronger will always win. I want to be able to kick hard, punch harder, and build even more endurance. So I’ve started a full body weight training class. Yesterday was first day of taking the class I felt confident, since I’d been training twice a week in Karate, that I’d be able to do well and...
